BTRGS Events
BTRGS
organises a number of matches each year. The matches falls into
two main categories:
Internal
Society member events
Spring, Autumn and Winter meetings, John Kerry and Captain vs Vice
Captain matches, and also to some extent the BT vs ex-BT match,
where it is society members playing against each other. We generally
have a target number of players we are expecting for these events
but we normally manage to accommodate most people who wish to play
in these events.
Matches
against other teams
We also arrange matches against other organisations, such as Legal
& General, Willis, Suffolk County Council, Transco, Halesworth
GC etc, In these matches we have usually a target number of players
agreed with the opposition so that each team has the same number
of pairs. This may however go up or down from the number we put
in the membership pack depending on interest from our own members
and the opposition’s ability to stand up sufficient players.
Match
organising and selection of players
Generally the BTRGS Captain of the Day (normally a committee member)
who is organising the match will send out an email about a month
in advance to the people who have put “yes” for that
event within the Match availability sheet that was submitted during
the BTRGS membership enrolment. If there are insufficient people
who confirm they will play the event, the invitation will usually
also be extended to those that marked interest as “Maybe”.
The organiser will pick a team from the people who confirm they
are available to play, as well as selecting a couple of reserves
in case someone has to drop out on short notice. If there is great
demand to play matches from our members, the Captains normally try
and select players who have not played in many previous events that
year. This has however not been a great problem over the past couple
of years.
Other
-
BTRGS arranges annual Singles and Doubles Knock-Out competitions
each year. These are open for all members and invites are sent
out to those that indicate a “yes” within the membership
enrolment form.
- BTRGS
also arranges a 2-day event in “Ryder Cup” format,
which proves very popular.
-
The Society also organises several sets of Golf Lessons throughout
the year. These sessions normally occur in Spring, Summer and
Autumn and is normally held at Ufford Park and tuition provided
by Stuart Robertson’s Golf Academy.
