The opening match of the season proceeded under threatening skies, which true
to form, later turned into persistent rain for most of the evening.
In an attempt to get everybody away smartly, a carefully thought out team was
blown asunder by pairing whoever was available on the tee at the time! This
must have had a positive effect as ‘el capitano’ (Steve Stokes) and his partner
Brian Waring were 10 up after 10 holes and proceeded to win their match by 12
holes! So, thanks to all players for turning up promptly and ensuring
that the tee was clear by 1620.
The conditions progressively worsened with most players and their kit becoming
extremely damp and what with the ‘difficult greens’ nobody was more pleased
than myself to see the 19th!
Following the match, a satisfactory meal was served in the dining room at Woodbridge
GC and the evening concluded with mutterings from Merv Green (POFGS Secretary)
that “just wait until the return at Felixstowe in July”!
The result of the match was a win for BTRGS by 8 holes. Well done chaps!
