On a very pleasant summers evening, twelve members of BTRGS met a similar number
of St Audrys members in an annual match that has been played for the last 25
years (ish). Over that period of time, numerous changes to the surroundings
have taken place. No longer is play interrupted by patients from the hospital
walking across the fairways. Indeed, the hospital has been sold to a property
developer and a sympathetic conversion of some of the old hospital buildings
into ‘des res’ has been performed.
The course continues to improve and the fairways and greens on this occasion
were the best I have seen for quite a number of years, due in no small part
I suspect, to the new green keeper and new equipment.
Local knowledge together with the small and tricky greens must favour the local
team and this was proved to be so with St Audrys winning by the small margin
of one hole.
The match concluded with a very nice buffet in the original Social Club (for
the last time) and next year it will be held in a brand new Sports & Social
Club due for completion by September 2000.
