The 2001 John Kerry Trophy was held at Waldringfield Golf Club this year.
I would firstly like to thank all 24 players who attended the event, and especially
Gabriel Martins, Martin Muldoon and Stephen Stokes who came in on very short
notice to make a complete field. I trust everyone enjoyed the day.
The weather was dry, but as windy as one can imagine, and I was therefore pleased
to see so many good scorecards. The course was in excellent condition, and the
dry weather we have had over the last few weeks ensured good roll on fairways
and forgiving rough, although it had also made the bounce of the greens somewhat
unpredictable.
The format of the competition was 4Ball Better Ball with ¾ handicap.
The winners of the John Kerry Trophy 2001 were Bob Larbey and Gerry Markham
with a score of 40 points. Well done to both of you, and especially Gerry who
managed to hold on to the trophy for the fourth year in a row.
Finally I must thank George for sorting out the score cards, and bringing prices
from our sponsors, and also a big thanks to Des, Barry and the caterers at Waldringfield
Golf Club.
