The match was held on 3 May 01 and was very successful from the social point of view. Unfortunately, our play was not good enough to get our names on the trophy. Some of our players finished with a 100% record of wins, while others managed 100% in the opposite direction, and others had halves.

The experiment of a 36 hole contest was very well received by both sides and we had an almost dry day in which to play our golf. The opposition were, as usual, a very friendly bunch and, this time, they had every reason to celebrate during another excellent meal provided by the Stowmarket catering staff. The course was in very good condition considering the amount of rain this year so there were no excuses for our loss, but we will come back next year more determined than ever. The suggestion that the captain of the day become a non-playing captain in view of the poor standard of his golf, will be considered in due course!
