Match Report

BT v Legal & General, Austin Lodge GC, 5/8/2003

This eight a side match is one of the new events on our calendar and was only played for the second year. It is a bit different as we meet half way between the two societies head quarters. It may have been marginally closer to Surry this time.

The weather was again of the normal British summer type with temperatures creeping over the 30 mark. We did actually have three drops of rain, but they vaporized as soon as they hit the ground.

The golf course was different, playing up and down two valleys, and on the ridge between them. It was a challenge to stop the ball on the greens, and with sloped approaches, it took some skill to bump and run as well.

Unfortunately we had a wrist injury in the first group on the L&G side. The matches where close, so the total outcome could have been different if this had not happened.

Erik and Colin seemed to be a very strong pairing and did very well. Leon did very well in dragging the captain of the day along.

In the third group we had Andy, a BT customer. It was very hard to find players for this event. Due to A/L etc., the captain of the day was late with the invites, although throughout the invitation period, all players in the society (with a HCP) got an invite. Andy, a friend of Alan, was a good sport and stepped in the day before the event. He played well for us, so a special thanks to him.

I would like to thank everyone that supported this event and made it such a good day.
