Match Report
Mid summer event, 25/6/2003
Following on from the great success of the introduction of a Mid-Summer meeting
last year, this years meeting was again held at Ufford Park. This years event
was another great success, with 30 players, brilliant weather and an impeccable
golf-course. The good weather had made the fairways dry and fast, and the greens
were true and reasonably fast.
The format of the event was for the teams to gather maximum points by counting
the 2 best Stableford scores within each team per hole. We had 8 teams, 6 teams
of 4 players and 2 teams with 3 players in the team. The teams had a good mix
of experienced and new golf-players, which resulted in some very high scoring.
There were also individual challenges such as nearest to the pin, nearest to
the pin in 2 shots, and of course the longest drive. The longest drive competition
will now soon change to become the "who can beat John's drive" challenge.
Who else can match a 340-yard drive on Ufford's par-5 7th hole, and a sand-wedge
into the green as a second shot?
After the golf we all enjoyed an excellent meal in the clubhouse, and prices
presented to the winning team and individual competition winners.
Thanks to all the members that took part a very enjoyable evening's golf,
and I hope to see many of you in next year's event.
