Match Report

BT v St Clements - Ian Reddington Memorial Trophy

Date: 28th April 2004
Venue: St Clement Golf Club

The BTRGS team:

Mark Ashton & Mike Head
Eric Hansen & Baard Grindberg
Dom Nash & Clifford Merlo
David Clark & Phil Flavin
Steven Bedford & Tony Boffey
Chris Amor (Captain) & John Briggs

The team arrived keen to start the season in a positive light or any light given a 5pm start in April and a forecast of rain. However the weather held and a previous diet of carrots allowed the match to complete (just) as darkness fell.

Many thanks goes to Paul Amass, my opposing captain, for a splendid evening which was professionally managed in an excellent and friendly manner. (Steve has a hard act to follow next year !)

Paul selected a strong team, many of which work for BT so could be eligible to join us ! Given the succession of whispers, nods and various signs on how the individual matches were going the result was fluctuating throughout the evening. The course was in lush condition with more grass that the average Amsterdam bar, indeed we nearly lost the ball on the Tee’s ! Whilst a relatively short course it’s mature tree lined holes proven an excellent challenge enjoyed by all.

The matches were played in good spirit and an excellent meal was enjoyed by all following the matches. I would like to thank all the team for their splendid support on the night even if they would not let me off the winners speech.

Results of the match from a home team perspective (Four Ball Better Ball format.)

STEVE CRAPNELL V MARK ASHTON -1
DAVE FITCH MIKE HEAD

TED GOODWIN V ERIK HANSEN -3
IAN ALCOCK BAARD GRINDBERG

BOB SUTTON V DOMINIC NASH ALL SQ

MICK HEDGES V DAVID CLARKE -2
DAVE BARBER PHIL FLAVIN

DICK PAGE V STEVEN BEDFORD +1
NIGEL SALMONS TONY BOFFEY

PAUL AMASS V CHRIS AMOR +1
JEFF GILHAM JOHN BRIGGS

BTRGS winning by 4 holes.

So a splendid win (with thanks to Norway and ignite !) which maintains the pattern of the trophy being held for 2 successive years before changing hands. Steve Crapnell is next years captain and is very keen to restore the trophy into their cabinet, he has already set aside 27 April 2005 for the next installment. I am sure we can buck the trend and successfully defend the trophy again.

Chris Amor
Captain of the Day
