We played our annual match against Lloyds Bank at Stowmarket on Friday 13th
May and fortunately we were not unlucky with either the weather or result.
The day started in fine sunshine although a cold wind was making conditions
slightly difficult. The golf course was in fantastic condition with the fairways
well presented (and slightly narrower than in previous years), the greens excellent
despite the work Stowmarket are obviously putting into them still and the rough
just amazing!
Stowmarket apparently have a new mower for cutting the rough which leaves the
grass standing upright as opposed to following the direction of the mower cut.
This means that a ball just a few yards off line in not very long rough usually
sat down and was extremely difficult to find!
The Lloyds secretary (Gareth) again did most of the organising for me and ensured
we were well fed throughout the day thanks to the food provided by Stowmarket.
The match was as close as ever with things very tight in the morning before
we managed to power home in the afternoon and retain the shield - something
that hasn't been done before so an excellent days golf, good company and the
right result.
