BT v Lloyds Bank

Date: 11^th May 2007 Venue: Diss Format: 4BBB Hambro scoring

We played our annual match against Lloyds Bank at Diss golf club in very good conditions (considering the rain that had been forecast and had been around all week!).

The course was in good condition and had clearly benefited from the recent rain. Diss again provided excellent food throughout the day with bacon rolls on arrival, sausage, chips and beans at lunchtime and then roast beef and yorkshire pudding followed by treacle tart in the evening.

The BT team was unfortunately 1 player short which meant that we had to choose who played on their own in the 4 ball better ball and then draw lots to decide who would play against 2 people in the afternoon singles.

George Courtney volunteered to play on his own in the 4 ball and did a very good job against a pairing that played to level par gross and I drew the short straw to play 2 matches in the afternoon. The match was played in its usual great spirits and the Lloyds team proved yet again what a good group of players they are.

The match itself saw lots of good golf with a number of matches finishing all square over the 18 holes. There were also a number of close finishes in other matches. Lloyds sneaked the morning 4 balls by 3 matches to 2 and BT won the afternoon singles by 5 ½ matches to 4 ½ meaning that the match was level over the day. Hambro scoring was equally as close – Lloyds were 7 holes up in the morning and BT 6 holes up in the afternoon, therefore Lloyds managed to regain the shield for the first time in 4 years.

I’d like to thank all the players for their support on the day and Lloyds for being such good opponents.
