Date: 27th July 1999
Venue: Felixstowe Ferry GC
Result: Win for BTRGS by 19 holes.
A somewhat windy, but nonetheless pleasant evening greeted the players for
this annual match with the Port of Felixstowe Golf Society. Twelve players per
side were scheduled to play four ball better ball, Hambro scoring and each of
the pairs were matched as closely as possible with pairs from the opposing team.
Of the six pairs put out by BTRGS, four recorded convincing wins, one pair
halved their match and the remaining pair lost. Baard Grindberg, a new member,
played his first match for the society and despite loosing his match (with Steve
Stokes) appeared to thoroughly enjoy the evening. A special mention must also
go to George Courtney who apparently ‘played out of his socks to 4 handicap’.
Well done George!
One disappointing aspect was that only eleven of their players turned up so
Steve Hodgkiss & Daryn Dodge had to play against just one of their team
– but recording a win nonetheless!
The course was in very good condition with very fast greens and quite punishing
rough although not quite as rough as Carnoustie! With an evening meal of Fish
& Chips in the clubhouse to round off the event, a good evenings golf was
had by all.
