1999 Spring Meeting

On Friday the 21st May, thirty-eight members and guests of the BT Research Golf Society (BTRGS) were to be found at Bungay and Waveney Valley Golf Club, taking part in the societies Spring meeting.   The large turn out was treated to fine weather, with the whole field managing to play both morning and afternoon without the need for rain suits, a marked improvement over some recent years.

The Club secretary Richard Stacey extended a very warm welcome and the green keeping staff presented the course in excellent condition with smooth consistent paced greens, “even I managed to hole a few.“
 
The morning singles was keenly contested with some very good scores returned in both handicap categories; several places having to be decided on count back.  Beware, Our eagle eyed handicap secretary George, has revised a number of peoples handicaps as a result!  For those caught, please ensure you take account of the revisions in future society competitions.   (Revised handicaps are shown on the membership list on the societies WWW pages.)

The results from the afternoon four balls were again close with high scoring especially in the guests division.  Our sponsor for the day Mike Pollock of CISCO Systems along with Jon Hopkins taking the guest prize with a very creditable forty-five stableford points.  (Both horses were seen grazing contently on the practice area.)

An enjoyable day’s entertainment was rounded off in traditional style with the a few drinks and a very well presented meal in the clubhouse.   My thanks to Christina Bremner and her catering team for looking after us so well all day.

I sincerely hope all who attended enjoyed the day and look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at the autumn meeting, to be held at Colchester Golf Club on the 20th September.  Invitations will be sent out early July.
