Stephen
is playing off a handicap of 10. The number of stokes he took are
in column 'A' and the stableford points per hole are on the right
(with 41 points he had a good game!).

In this
4 ball better ball, the pair of R Beecroft and J Hill jointly scored
39 points. Because they are playing as a pair, their handicaps are
multiplied by 0.75, so they only receive 5 and 11 strokes respectively,
i.e. on holes with SI 1-5 Beecroft may take 1 extra stoke and still
get two points, but must par the others; similarly Hill may take
one extra stroke on holes with SI 1-11 to get two points.
Had they
been playing match-play, the score after 18 holes would have been
a dead heat, so they would either have had to play (depending on
the rules of the day) extra holes or decide the game on count-back
- in which case Beecroft and Hill would have won.

scoring
This is
similar to match-play but requires all 18 holes to be played...so
if you're playing badly and loosing by four holes with three left
to play, you've still got to soldier on for the three remaining
holes!
